What happens if I collect Social Security benefits while working? | St. Petersburg Disability Claim Appeal Lawyer

Well, you’re in big trouble! You can be reported for Social Security Disability fraud.

There can be an assessed overpayment that can run into thousands of dollars that will follow you to the grave. Social Security can recoup overpayments until you die. Alternatively, they can stop your benefits, which means you’ll have to start all over again in the disability evaluation process and prove that you are disabled. Remember that you are jeopardizing your entitlement to Medicare or Medicaid if you work while Social Security Disability benefits or SSI.

Please note that at Cavey & Barrett, Tampa Bay based Social Secuity Disability lawyers, we do not represent individuals who work while collecting Social Security Disability benefits.

Answering these broad-based questions isn't easy. Help is a phone call away. You can contact Nancy Cavey, an experienced long-term disability attorney at 727-894-3188.

Are you able to work and earn up to $980 month without jeapordizing your benefits?

I thought that you were able to work and earn a maximum of $980/month and still collect Social Security Disability. If you notify Social Security that you are working, I don't see how that constitutes fraud.
